Back to School

School is back in session and we have had a fantastic start at Miss Amy's Preschool this year.  Of course we are learning about our ABC's!

"A" is for Apple

"B" is for Band-Aid

(the students loved putting these band-aids on the letter B).

We are also talking about colors and have had so much fun with lots of different games, activities, and art projects as we talk about all of the fun colors and color words.  Sponge painting leafs on this fall tree was one of the students favorite activities.

End of the Year

We had a fun month at Miss Amy's ABC Preschool.  Our Singing Program was a great success.  The kids sang so cute and knew their speaking parts so well.  We went on a field trip to the Syracuse Smith's and then had a blast playing at the park.  The last day of school was a pajama popcorn party!  We played Plinko (thanks to my fabulous hubby who made this awesome board) and we watched The Leap Frog Letter Factory movie while we ate popcorn and snacks.  I have loved watching these children grow through the year.  Their hugs and high fives on the last day of school always make me that happy kind of sad.  I will miss them! Have a great summer kiddos.

Fire Safety

One of our preschool moms is a firefighter....how cool is that!  She came to our classroom to talk to all the preschool children about what to do in case of a fire.  She covered not playing with matches, lighters, or guns.  We talked about stop, drop, and roll and even got to practice.  She taught us about crawling out of a burning house/building so that we breath the cleanest air.  Then we did a drill.  We all got outside FAST and went strait to a meeting spot!  Firefighter Roxanne asked all the children to go home and do a homework assignment:

1.  Ask their parents where the family meeting spot is, in case of a fire.
2.  Practice a fire drill.  Roxanne suggested that children could pretend to be asleep in bed.  Mom or dad would then trigger an alarm, and all the kids need to get out of the house and to the meeting spot fast!  If the kids can do it in 60 seconds or less, they deserve a TREAT.  There was lots of talk about ice cream, but I'm sure any treat would work!

Happy practicing and a big thank you to Roxanne for teaching all of us at Miss Amy's ABC Preschool about fire safety!

Under the Sea

Last week at Miss Amy's ABC Preschool, we talked about all the different animals that live in the ocean.  We read Hermit the Crab by Eric Carle.  I thought our paper plate hermit crabs turned out pretty cute!

We also painted an under water scene and everyone got to talk about their favorite sea creature.  It was a lot of fun!

Happy Mother's Day!

We made mother's day cards today. It's one of my favorite projects because the children answer questions about their mom's favorite things and the answers are always so cute! This year most of the kids said their mom's favorite food was salad/vegetables and that their mom's favorite thing to do was clean or do the dishes! Happy Mother's Day to all you moms, whether you like to do dishes and eat salad or not!

Learning is FUN!

We've done a lot of fun things at Miss Amy's ABC Preschool the past couple weeks.  We learned about life cycles.

We also had a fantastic field trip to Texas Roadhouse in Layton!  They were so great to us there and had fun games for us to play, took us on a fun tour, and fed us all lunch.  IT WAS DELICIOUS!

Parents...Don't forget our singing program on May 5th!  There is preschool that day at the regular time and your evening program times were sent home in your May Newsletters.  Have a great day!

It's Springtime!

Well it is ironic that as I am posting this, there is snow falling in Syracuse!  We have been talking about Springtime at Miss Amy's ABC Preschool this week.  Here are some of the fun things we've made.

"U" is for umbrella.  We talked about our crazy Utah weather.
The kids LOVED using the Halloween cupcake wrappers, even though it's April!

We read "The Tiny Seed" by Eric Carle and made our
own BIG flowers with a tiny seed and roots.

We have also been working on inequalities (more than and less than) and counting.  Today in class we read the M&M counting book and did some counting with our own cup of M&M's.  YUM!
M&M Boards for counting to 9.
This was a really fun activity!
