We had a fantastic time celebrating Halloween at Miss Amy's ABC Preschool. We played games, read the book, "Go Away Big Green Monster", made big green monster faces, and had fun in our costumes.

Walking Water
To go along with our unit on colors and color words we did a fun science experiment called, Walking Water. This was so easy and the preschool students LOVED it! We filled two jars with water, added some food coloring, then placed an empty jar between them. Next you take a regular square of paper towel and cut it into four squares. Take one of the paper towel pieces, fold it into a strip, and place one end in a jar of colored water and the other end into the empty jar. The colored water creeps up the paper towel and then drips into the empty jar. This only takes a minute or two to start. Of course the colors mix and magically make a new color in the middle. The kids had a lot of fun guessing what the middle colors were going to be and watching the colors drip in. We love science at Miss Amy's ABC Preschool!
Back to School
School is back in session and we have had a fantastic start at Miss Amy's Preschool this year. Of course we are learning about our ABC's!
"A" is for Apple
"B" is for Band-Aid
(the students loved putting these band-aids on the letter B).
We are also talking about colors and have had so much fun with lots of different games, activities, and art projects as we talk about all of the fun colors and color words. Sponge painting leafs on this fall tree was one of the students favorite activities.

End of the Year
We had a fun month at Miss Amy's ABC Preschool. Our Singing Program was a great success. The kids sang so cute and knew their speaking parts so well. We went on a field trip to the Syracuse Smith's and then had a blast playing at the park. The last day of school was a pajama popcorn party! We played Plinko (thanks to my fabulous hubby who made this awesome board) and we watched The Leap Frog Letter Factory movie while we ate popcorn and snacks. I have loved watching these children grow through the year. Their hugs and high fives on the last day of school always make me that happy kind of sad. I will miss them! Have a great summer kiddos.

Fire Safety
One of our preschool moms is a firefighter....how cool is that! She came to our classroom to talk to all the preschool children about what to do in case of a fire. She covered not playing with matches, lighters, or guns. We talked about stop, drop, and roll and even got to practice. She taught us about crawling out of a burning house/building so that we breath the cleanest air. Then we did a drill. We all got outside FAST and went strait to a meeting spot! Firefighter Roxanne asked all the children to go home and do a homework assignment:
1. Ask their parents where the family meeting spot is, in case of a fire.
2. Practice a fire drill. Roxanne suggested that children could pretend to be asleep in bed. Mom or dad would then trigger an alarm, and all the kids need to get out of the house and to the meeting spot fast! If the kids can do it in 60 seconds or less, they deserve a TREAT. There was lots of talk about ice cream, but I'm sure any treat would work!
Happy practicing and a big thank you to Roxanne for teaching all of us at Miss Amy's ABC Preschool about fire safety!

Under the Sea
Last week at Miss Amy's ABC Preschool, we talked about all the different animals that live in the ocean. We read Hermit the Crab by Eric Carle. I thought our paper plate hermit crabs turned out pretty cute!
We also painted an under water scene and everyone got to talk about their favorite sea creature. It was a lot of fun!

Happy Mother's Day!
We made mother's day cards today. It's one of my favorite projects because the children answer questions about their mom's favorite things and the answers are always so cute! This year most of the kids said their mom's favorite food was salad/vegetables and that their mom's favorite thing to do was clean or do the dishes! Happy Mother's Day to all you moms, whether you like to do dishes and eat salad or not!

Learning is FUN!
We've done a lot of fun things at Miss Amy's ABC Preschool the past couple weeks. We learned about life cycles.
We also had a fantastic field trip to Texas Roadhouse in Layton! They were so great to us there and had fun games for us to play, took us on a fun tour, and fed us all lunch. IT WAS DELICIOUS!
Parents...Don't forget our singing program on May 5th! There is preschool that day at the regular time and your evening program times were sent home in your May Newsletters. Have a great day!

It's Springtime!
Well it is ironic that as I am posting this, there is snow falling in Syracuse! We have been talking about Springtime at Miss Amy's ABC Preschool this week. Here are some of the fun things we've made.
We have also been working on inequalities (more than and less than) and counting. Today in class we read the M&M counting book and did some counting with our own cup of M&M's. YUM!
"U" is for umbrella. We talked about our crazy Utah weather. The kids LOVED using the Halloween cupcake wrappers, even though it's April! |
We read "The Tiny Seed" by Eric Carle and made our own BIG flowers with a tiny seed and roots. |

We had a fun Easter party at Miss Amy's class! We painted Easter Eggs.
Such good artists! |
We played a jelly bean sorting game. The kids loved sorting the colors and finding out which color had the most.
After eating our jelly beans, we had an Easter Egg Hunt.
Such a fun day at Miss Amy's ABC Preschool!

Eggs Hatch!
We have been talking about the many different animals that hatch from eggs, including chickens! It was fun to have the children guess whether chickens can lay green eggs...and it was even more fun to show them GREEN CHICKEN EGGS! First we looked at the eggs in the fridge...some even had speckles. Next, we went outside and fed the chickens. Then we checked the nesting boxes for eggs and were lucky enough to find some. Such a fun day at Miss Amy's Preschool!

St. Patrick's Day
We had a blast at Miss Amy's ABC Preschool today! We made shamrocks with THE CUTEST faces. The kids loved making these and spent a while reading them stories and playing with them once they were all put together.
We played the hot and cold game with a little leprechaun. We would hide the leprechaun around the class room, and the students got to take turns finding him based on our hot and cold directions. The students were so smart!
For snack time we started with some white frosting, turned it yellow with a little food coloring, and then added some blue. The students LOVED that it turned green....it was like magic.

Lions & Tigers & Bears...OH MY!
We talked about animals today at Miss Amy's ABC Preschool. Each of the students got to bring a stuffed animal to school. We talked about the animals habitat, what they eat, the sound they make, and all sorts of fun facts. I learned some new facts and think the kiddos did too. They were pretty surprised to find out that whales can't breath under water!
1, 2, 3 say I love ANIMALS!

Sink or Float
Today at Miss Amy's Preschool we had a fun experiment! We placed a bunch of items in a large tub of water to see if they would sink or float. First we made our predictions...
Then we tested our ideas! The things that surprised the kids the most were the cucumber, the candles, and the index card...which all floated! I thought the legos would sink but they floated. It was a fun day at preschool today!

Guess Whoooo Loves You?
We made these cute owls for our parents at our preschool Valentine's Day party. It was perfect that we were studying the letter "O" for our ABC's this week. Happy Valentine's Day everyone!

Look what we made!
I can't believe we are more than half way through our preschool year. It is amazing to see how much these kiddos have learned from the beginning of the year until now. Here are some fun things we have learned at Miss Amy's ABC Preschool lately--
"N" is for Noodle Necklace. We are more than half way through the ABC's!We have FIVE senses. By adding a little scented oil to a cotton ball we made these flowers really smell. The kids LOVED it.
They also LOVED making these texture fingers and talking about TEXTURES...rough, smooth, bumpy, hard, and soft.

We love winter!
We have been talking about winter at Miss Amy's ABC Preschool this month, and made these fun snowmen. Each child wrote their names out, one letter per circle. I loved watching them build their snowmen names, putting the letters in order, and then drawing faces and snowflakes. So creative!
Winter is also the best time for field trips! Everyone in Miss Amy's class enjoyed bowling and bouncing at The Rush Funplex in Syracuse. The folks at Rush put the bumpers up and had ball slides for each of the lanes we used. Some of these kiddos bowled over 100! We also enjoyed some of their delicious pizza. It was a fun day.
